The Mykolaiv Regional Blood Transfusion Centre has issued an official appeal to donors, the medical community and residents of the region. In the statement, the organisation outlined its position on the criminal proceedings, provided an update on the status of the frozen plasma, discussed the management of medical waste and described the changes to blood donation services following a change in leadership. This is reported by novosti-n.

Comments on the investigation and misappropriation of assets

The organisation acknowledged that the news of the criminal proceedings had caused concern amongst donors and had had a negative impact on public confidence. At the same time, the management emphasised:

  • Previous periods: the incidents and breaches under investigation relate to the company’s activities in previous years.
  • Cooperation with law enforcement agencies: since the start of 2026, the new team has been est ablishing a new system of monitoring and record-keeping, and is providing full support to investigative activities to ensure that all the facts are established objectively.
  • Background to the allegations: As a reminder, the former head of the institution was previously charged with embezzlement on a particularly large scale — this relates to potential losses of over 2.2 million hryvnias arising from dealings involving freshly frozen plasma.

The situation regarding plasma and clinical waste

The company also provided clarification on the status of the plasma that was sent for fractionation in March 2026:

  1. Resource status: as at 1 January 2026, the plasma in question had already been officially declared ‘unsuitable for clinical use’ — this status had been granted to it under the previous management.
  2. Supplies to hospitals: Throughout 2026, healthcare facilities in the Mykolaiv region received frozen plasma in the required quantities and without any delays.
  3. Waste disposal: Since the start of the year, the station has been working with a licensed contractor who ensures the safe removal and disposal of medical and hazardous waste in accordance with strict protocols.

An increase in donations and outreach teams

Despite the challenges, the organisation is showing positive progress in its work with donors. Thanks to its focus on safety and convenience:

  • Overall increase: the number of donations in 2026 rose by more than 15 per cent compared with last year.
  • Out-of-area donations: the proportion of out-of-area teams has risen significantly — whilst in 2025 they accounted for 18 per cent of the total, by 2026 this figure had risen to nearly 35 per cent.

Representatives of the station thanked each donor for their compassion and gave assurances that they would live up to the public’s trust through their daily, high-quality and transparent work.
