In addition, a further 21 units of backup power equipment will be supplied to 12 local authorities in various regions of the country. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Sergii Koretskyi.
The main aim of the government’s initiative is to ensure the stable operation of centralised water supply and sewerage systems, even during emergency power cuts caused by systematic hostile attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Funding from the reserve fund and the mobile generation programme
The generators are being supplied using funds from the state budget’s reserve fund as part of the national programme to provide communities with mobile power generation. Government officials emphasise that civilians must not be left without basic utilities during power cuts.
The use of backup power sources will enable pumping stations to maintain the required pressure in the water supply networks of large cities and small communities in the event of a total or partial power cut.
The Government has separately appealed to local authorities, urging them not to delay and to ensure that the equipment provided is installed, set up and commissioned as soon as possible.
It is of critical importance that all the generators received are integrated into the water utilities’ operational processes as soon as possible, in order to ensure the uninterrupted provision of services to the public and social sector facilities during the winter months.
